Botox and Dysport are made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. This toxin is the same one that causes botulism, but when used in small doses can help to prevent contraction of the muscles. Before use, the toxin, called either Botulinum toxin type A or Botulinum toxin type B, is purified for safety.
Botox and Dysport work by relaxing the muscles in your face, most commonly the corrugators and procerus muscles between the eyebrows. When you contract these muscles, you squint and frown lines form between the eyes. Crow’s feet may also form at the outer corners of the eyes as a result of this contraction. When Botox is injected into these muscles, the muscles’ ability to contract is restricted, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles in the face.
Botox is often used for the following cosmetic purposes:
Botox and Dysport are administered in our office using an ultra-fine needle. Before the procedure, Dr. Parbhu may administer a topical anesthetic if you are very sensitive to pain. To ensure that the neurotoxin is injected into the proper treatment areas, you may be asked to squint or contract the muscle areas being treated so they are clearly visible. Botox/ Dysport is then injected into these facial muscles. The procedure usually takes just a few minutes.
Neurotoxin effects generally last about three to four months, although this may vary slightly from patient to patient. The effects of Botox treatment may take up to a week to be noticeable as the skin relaxes around the facial muscles. Dysport may have a quicker onset of action. After the effects of Botox & Dysport treatment wear off, you may receive subsequent treatments to maintain a more youthful appearance. Botox is effective for moderate to severe wrinkles due to muscle contraction but not deep lines present at rest which are better treated with filler (such as Juvederm and Restylane). Neurotoxin is an excellent adjunct to dermal fillers in minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. Call us today at 407-674-1856 to schedule a consultation.
Have you ever wondered if Botox & Dysport are right for you? The information below can help you determine if these treatments are for you and which areas Botox & Dysport can help with.
The muscles in your face are just like any other muscles, the more you work them out and use them the stronger they will get. As they grow stronger they remain in the position that causes those lines in the forehead, crows feet, the furrow between your brow and other areas that can make us look angry or tired. No one wants to look angry or tired! It just isn’t a very becoming look!
Botox & Dysport can help with this and other areas. When injected into the muscles in these areas Botox & Dysport can relax the muscle which cause the skin to relax with it and help smooth these lines and furrows. It can also be used in other areas to treat things like a gummy smile (showing too much of your gum line when you smile), the golf ball chin (dimples that appear in the chin when you pucker) and the masseter muscle (jaw) to slim the face and help with TMJ.
